Informal Writing

  1. Podcast Assignment 1 (link)
    Due Friday
  2. Using last week’s post on “The Rhetoric That Surrounds You,” pick three different examples from three different students that embody logos, ethos and pathos. Collect the examples in one post that is tagged “rhetoric surrounds response,” and in the post, briefly (1-2 sentences) describe why the example embodies the appeal.
    Due Thursday
  3. Having read Clive Thompson’s piece in the New York Times Magazine, post 2-3 short quotes (no more than 2 sentences for each) that resonate with you. No commentary required, just posts your quotes in separate posts (using the “Quote” template in Tumblr) and tag them “digital intimacy.” If you don’t know how to add a quote in Tumblr, click here.
    Due Wednesday

Tasks

1. I am still noticing that several people in the class are not following all of their classmates. Please see this updated document that contains all students. While signed into Tumblr, click the links to their Tumblr addresses and simply click “Follow” at the top of the page.

2. Over the past few weeks, I have instructed students to “tag” each blog post with a specific phrase (“dan mccarthy,” “rhetoric surrounds,” “thinking rhetorically,” etc.). Some students are still failing to do this. Tagging your posts correctly prevents me from having to “hunt” around for them and it ensures you receive credit for your work. Please go back to your previous blog entries and be sure that they are tagged properly, given my instructions. Note: The tags must written out exactly how I wrote them in order for the practice to be effective.
